About Kaivaly

Kaivaly is a band based in the spiritually charged high desert of Arivaca, Arizona. Members of the band on the recording include Mary Scott, who wrote the "Songs of Vasistha" and plays acoustic guitar and sings, Charlie Tucker, who plays lead guitar and bass, and Peter Ragan, master of percussion. Since the recording was made, RIchard Jenkins (the Troll) has joined the band playing percussion, Peter plays washtub bass, and Gail Bastien plays keyboards when her dual citizenship allows. Richard Conway adds another voice playing recorder.

The band is available for concerts featuring just the "Songs of Vasistha", as well as for concerts that also include favorite songs by artists such as Bob Dylan, Warren Zevon, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, U2 and Van Morrison.  Spin the universe and the band morphs into the rock-n-roll band Camelphat ~ playing celebrations and various venues in Arivaca.

A note from Charlie Tucker ~ "Songs of Vasistha" is, first of all, a blessing. A blessing that has been given many times throughout the ages. The sage Vasistha gave it to Sri Rama a long time ago and Mary, more recently, gave it to me. Now, Kaivaly gives it to you.

"Songs of Vasistha ", as a musical concept, began with a song that Mary wrote called Another Day. It was the first song she ever wrote. It was a great song for a guitarist like me to play along with. It sounds a little clichéd but the song really just played itself. It reminded me, for whatever reason, of Richie Valens' version of "La Bamba." All in all, it was a great first song for anyone. I'm not sure if Mary herself figured there'd be many, if any, more. In another few weeks, she'd written the whole album!

Recording the "Songs of Vasistha" has been pure joy. Watching the illusion as it developed, word by word and chord by chord and note by note...
Mahaspanda. The great vibration. Sound.

I trust there will be more but if this is the last work to be done by Kaivaly in this samsara, that will be okay, too.
